Get what you pay for...Aug 06, 2008 I bought this a few months ago to make homemade baby food for my infant son. While it did do the job intended (granted, it was only used on well-cooked veggies, so it didn't meet much resistance), I had a couple of problems with it.
First, you had to constantly hold the button down to keep the blender on (there is no locked on position). After pureeing veggies for about a minute, my hand would begin to cramp.
Second, after washing the removable blade attachment, the attachment began to rust on the inside, and would "leak" rust into whatever I was blending.
You definitely get what you pay for with this item. There were several other more expensive hand blenders available, but I chose this cheaper model because I'd never used one before and wasn't sure it was going to do what I needed it to do. Now that I know a hand blender is so useful, I'm going to invest in a much higher quality brand.
Possibly the worst hand blender on the marketJun 07, 2007 I'm definitely in the market for a new hand blender. I've used two, count them--two, of these....one I bought for myself and the other my husband bought as a replacement, not knowing that Oster was what I was replacing. Both were absolutely horrible. I'd rate it less than a zero, but amazon doesn't have options for that in the rating system.
The removeable shaft is mated into plastic gears within the motor. These strip out very easily if the blender blades meet with anything more resistent than liquid. That was the fate of the first blender. The second blender was even worse, because I only used it with liquid. The housing on the external unit cracked, allowing the shaft to slip out. It is now only useable if I hold the shaft in place with my free hand. This after only two weeks of daily use.
It's a usuriously overpriced product and I'm definitely looking to buy up from here, because this product is the bottom of the barrel.
