Just What I was Looking ForAug 02, 2008 I read reviews from Cooks Illustrated and Consumer's reports before buying this blender and I couldn't be happier with my choice. Love how it crushes ice with ease, makes smoothies, purees, etc. Could care less about the tachometer but I have all stainless steel appliances and it fits right in with my decor.
Good Service, Terrible Blender cupJul 29, 2008 Down through the years I have bought several cheap blenders from whatever discount store was in town. Never had much of a problem except the gasket may wear out or tear. When that happened just as easy to replace because they were so cheap to begin with. The L'equip is the most expensive blender I have ever purchased and it received a great review in Cook's Illustrated. I have to say I am very dissappointed. The plastic blending jar is very cheap. For unknown reasons the underside of the cup developed cracks. They did replace it. Now the blade has developed a crack. Again they were good enough to replace it but this is getting ridiculous. I have never experienced this with any of the "cheap" machines I have purchased. I would recommend against purchasing this product.
I will say that unlike another 1-star reviewer I have had very good customer service from the company that handles l'Equip.
Excellent and fun blender.Jun 14, 2008 I bought this blender as a birthday present to myself in October 2006. Since then, I have used it almost every morning to make smoothies for breakfast. The first time I fired it up, it almost scared me. This thing has power to spare. It will puree rock solid frozen fruit like it was warm butter. You could probably crush gravel if you wanted to. Over eighteen months of hard use and absolutely no problems. No peeling chrome, no burning smells, no clanking, the tachometer works perfectly. I do get that electrical, ozone type smell when using it for long periods, but, come on... it has a 900w motor. I don't know why the one reviewer says it has non-removable blades. The blades on mine are very easy to remove from the bottom of the pitcher. Just turn it upside down, and the whole blade assembly simply rotates out. The design is another high point. This blender, along with my Kitchenaid Pro-Line burr-grinder and waffle maker are the jewels of my countertop appliances. Very retro, with an almost deco look, they remind me of set pieces from Metropolis. They look, feel and work like they were built in the 1920's to last a couple of centuries. What more could you want?

Be cautious...Jan 02, 2008 (Revised) We bought this product based on a review by Cooks Illustrated, normally a reliable source. Here is what is wrong with the blender:
1) It is huge, it will not fit in or under most kitchen cabinets. Forget about leaving it on the counter.
2) The plastic jar is cheaply made, feels cheap, and broke within 18 months (although, the jar was quickly replaced for free after I completed the task of tracking down the US distributor).
3) The RPM dial only works about 10% of the time.
Would add a couple of starts to the original review based on the quick and courteous jar replacement.
WHAT A GREAT BLENDER!!!!Nov 28, 2007 My Mom had the same issue another review writter had, with the flaking chrome so I called today and it was taken care of within 5 minutes. SO not only is this the best blender we have ever used the company is also wonderful! (the chrome was only in the first batch made and they will replace any of them for stainless steal for free:)
If you have any issues or need a replacement part call them they replaced my "cone" for free and were happy to do it:) The service number for the US is 1-877-267-2434.
